My Resume

Please feel free to make suggestions :) Thanks!

  1. Hello! I finally got a chance to check out your resume. I see a lot of resumes for Social Work position since that's what I do, as you know! One thing I would suggest, if you're using this resume to gain a social work position I would definitely move your license information to the TOP! That's a most important bit of info and it kind of gets lost down at the bottom where you have it now. In fact, I read your resume twice and only saw it the second time! It's too important to bury.

Another thing to consider, even though you should be very proud of your accomplishments at Barber College you might consider creating a place to put that on other interests or accomplishments rather than in the list of past education experience. I'm thinking that it might be best to focus on those areas you studied that were people and service oriented more in the human service field. I think your nursing associates degree definitely belongs there because it shows you have some valuable medical background. Your graphic communications degree should be there because that shows you are technology forward which is a plus in this field. And of course, the other social work info is right where it needs to be.

Of course, these are just my suggestions and thoughts! Well, you asked! LOL

  2. thank you so much for the critique!! means alot coming from you! i changed the license information. the template i was using had it at the bottom of the resume and i never liked it there because i, like you thought it is my claim to fame :). I'm leaving the barber college stuff mainly because it was during that time that i learned how to handle the general public on a more intimate level. did i ever tell you that i really never liked the general public until then :) i learned so much about humanity during that time. i guess i should explain that in the cover letter, huh? anyway thanks again!

  3. Hey Prin, apparently you did not get my first message about your resume (or the snarky second message which I apologize for). My feeling is that, because your experience is mostly outside of the social work field, you should mainly look at the skills you have and how they are transferrable to the social work field. For instance, working on the dispatch line would give you the skill of adjusting priorities which is easily transferred to social work. Also, I would put your schooling (particularly your social work education) closer to the top. As well as your skills section. If I have time, I'll do some cut and pasting and let you know what I mean. (sorry, I don't have an url, but I think you have my email.)
