Cultural Competence Resources for Health Care Providers

Click the title link for a little light read this morning :) There is also an eighteen page toolbox...if you've been reading here for very long you know I love toolboxes! I feel they pick up where school is so lacking, in the actual 'tell you specific actions to take' department. If you want to just cut to the chase of the article the toolbox is located here. In fact I think the challenge for the day will be to pull all the toolboxes I have out and put them on the sidebar...oh, what fun :)

  4. Toolboxes rock. You are so right about them picking up where school leaves off, and cultural competence is such a key area for health care. I cannot tell you how many referrals we get from hospitals to protective services that turn out to be a culturally biased interpretation of a family system. Thanks a bunch for finding and posting this.

  5. thanks, bj...i think i'll call you that from now on. i have a friend in atlanta named bj that i miss very much and i don't know her real name either :) it's always good to get comments...makes me feel better. especially today. i'm having a hard time gathering my thoughts to put on paper without sounding like a complete idiot. i'm pissed about the recent decisions of the supreme court and i'm also pissed about my own town's recent decision to ban smoking in all public places, but not ban cell phone usage while driving. wtf. i need to find a study that compares the direct death statistics of secondhand smoking and cell phone usage while driving to make my point. yeah right...probably have to do my own comparison. i'm also pissed because ms state hospital has banned smoking on their entire grounds. wtf!! why would you want to take away the only little bit of pleasure some of their patients have out there. it's not like they provide any recreational activities except an occasional movie. shit, i'm just ill and grouchy today...maybe i just shouldn't post anything and go take a bubble bath or something :)
